The governor also accused the MP and other senior officials of trying to grab close to 13,000 acres of land belonging to a local company. He, however, failed to reveal the name of the Senator.

"Land is being grabbed in Mavoko and I am trying to stop it, but there are cartels funded by senior politicians. We are aware that interested groups involving senior government officials and brokers are involved in a plot to grab and sell off the land,” Mutua stated.

Mutua was for the second time this week appearing before the Senate's Public Investment and Accountability committee to answer to audit queries of the 2013/2014 financial year.

Mutua also admitted that the county has over Sh400 million of unsettled debt which differed with the figure that senators had of Sh2.8 billion.

This raises fears whether suppliers and contractors in the county have been paid.

Mutua will also appear before the committee this Friday.
