Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua yesterday officially welcomed Former Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara as he seeks to recapture his seat in the forthcoming general polls.
Speaking at the party headquarters in Lavington, Imanyara, said that he had decided to join Mutua’s party after extensive consultation with his people, adding that he does not regret parting ways with Coalition for Reforms and Democracy(Cord) Leader Raila Amolo Odinga ahead of the August general polls.
“All of them have told me that I should cut out the acrimony that is characteristic between political formations supporting incumbents…and support a formation that offers a future for Meru and that formation is Maendeleo Chap Chap,” he said.
Imanyara joins other influential leaders in the politics of this nation who have opted to join Mutua’s party as they seek different elective posts including former adviser of President Uhuru Kenyatta on education and Meru governor aspirant Kilemi Mwiria.
The politicians confirmed that he has already written to the secretary of his former partry and the Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commision (IEBC) informing them about the defection.
The MP further said that he is ready to back the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto in the up coming general polls despite their differences when it comes to political ideologies.
“There are no politicians who have had no differences. We have had this, just like I have had many within my own opposition ranks in ODM, where I ran last time for Senate and lost,” he said.
