Jubilee Party has yet again suffered a blow as political realignments continue to shape up ahead of August polls.
Despite reaping big over the weekend in Wajir, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party has lost Nyamira Governorship aspirant Charles Mochama, after months of association with the head of state.
Before joining Jubilee, Mochama had a long spell in ODM party, which he decamped unceremoniously, after the entry of West Mugirango MP James Gesami in the gubernatorial race.
“I opted to join Maendeleo Chap Chap (Alfred Mutua’s party) because I want to be in ballot. There are a lot of games being played and I don’t want to be part of such deals,” he told reporters.
Mochama added: “I ought to compete because I am sure of victory. It is about numbers and not parties.”
Prior to his defection, Mochama was to face veteran politician Walter Nyambati in Jubilee nominations that are due to start in few weeks’ time.
While Mochama is now assured of being in ballot, the only real competition before elections will be witnessed in ODM primaries where Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama will be facing Mr. Gesami.
