Machakos County boss Dr Alfred Mutua has revealed why he has not paid several contractors who have worked in his county.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap boss said that despite the criticism he gets from his opponents, he will only pay contractors if they deliver quality work. He also said that some county officials are the reason he will not pay contractors due to price inflation.
“You pay for what you have done. There are also many white elephants in this country thus; we must do verification before paying. How do I pay nonexistent contractors? I also found out that some contractors collude with county employees and inflate prices thus I will not pay them,” said Governor Mutua.
According to Mutua, he will do everything within his jurisdiction to protect the people’s money. He even laid blame on some of Machakos County MCAs who have failed to use the machinery he provides to offer services to citizens. He says they cannot do so because they fear the electorate will credit the governor for the resulting development.
“I do not pay because I have to protect people’s money,” he added.
The incumbent governor will face off with former CCU boss Wavinya Ndeti. She will be seeking to oust him on a Wiper ticket.
