Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has called upon leaders and Kenyans to maintain before, during and after the October rerun. The county boss reminded the nation that there is need to ensure peaceful polls for the sake of the nation’s economy.

“We must remain united and peaceful as Kenyans and politicians despite the political challenges we are facing,” said Mutua.

The remarks of the lawmaker, who was re-elected on Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement, come after National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate, Raila Amolo Odinga and his running mate Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka announced their withdrawal from the race. The opposition leaders said that they are not ready to take part in the rerun after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) refused to heed to their demands.

The leaders have now urged their supporters to take to the streets in protest against the commission’s CEO Ezra Chiloba among other officials linked to electoral malpractices. The decision of the opposition leader to drop from the fresh election has attracted mixed reactions from different factions. Leaders of Jubilee have accused Raila of attempting to rise to power through unconstitutional means.
