Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has written to the Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro seeking intervention over what he terms as persistent interference in county activities by Senator Johnstone Muthama.
Mutua claims that senator Muthama has been maliciously interfering with the activities taking place in the county.
The Machakos governor has also complained over alleged defamatory remarks being made by Muthama against him and some county officials.
“It is true that I have sought the intervention of the senate speaker on this matter and I am waiting for responses," he said.
Mutua said that most of the county activities are being halted by malicious allegations allegedly perpetuated by senator Muthama.
The Machakos Governor said that the speaker’s word on the matters will help quell the tense environment being experienced in the county.
Mutua, however, said that he will not be intimidated and forced to bow down by people who have no interests in development.
“I will remain firm and continue to discharge my duties as the Machakos Governor, no one will stop me apart from the people who elected me,” Mutua told reporters on Monday.
The relationship between Governor Mutua and senator Muthama has been frosty since the two were elected in 2013.
Muthama has been a critic of Governor Mutua’s government accusing him of failing the people and allegedly misappropriating development funds.
During the 2013 general election campaigns, Muthama was quoted saying that he would resign if Mutua was elected Machakos Governor.
