Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has left tongues wagging after he said that he is ready to take another pay cut. Speaking after the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) announced the new plan, Mutua said he has no problem.

“That’s why I support Serem in slashing the salaries of the country’s top earners including politicians,” said Mutua.

He added:“We cannot afford to have a country of a few millionaire’s and millions of poor people,” said Mutua. President Uhuru has also said that he is okay with the salary reduction

“I want to express my full support to SRC, I call upon all public servants and state officers to support SRC recommendations,” he said.

Under the new payment system, the president will earn Sh1,443,750 million down from Sh1.65 million while his deputy William Ruto will take home Sh1.2 million from Sh1.4 million.

The others include governors whose salaries have been slashed to Sh924, 000 million from Sh1.06 million, Deputy governors from Sh 704,441 million to Sh621,250 million.

Senator, MP and Women reps new salaries will be Sh621 250 million instead of Sh701, 000 million like it was before the commission decided on the pay cut.
