Governor Alfred Mutua has said that NASA’s planned demonstrations against the IEBC will cause panic in the country and cripple the economy.

Mutua says that the anti-IEBC protests are coming at a bad time when the country is still grappling from the 'hangovers' of the recently concluded general election and still the forthcoming repeat presidential poll.

The governor says that while NASA and Kenyans have a right to peaceful demonstrations they should do it within the confines of the law.

Speaking to journalists in Machakos Town on Monday, Mutua appealed to the opposition and their supporters to keep off violence.

Mutua said that the country is in a state of confusion and anxiety warning that any small trigger will be disastrous.

"I am urging Kenyans to pray for peace and tolerance for our our country to overcome obstacles as we head to the repeat presidential election," he said as quoted by the Standard.

Governor Mutua said that despite the high political temperatures, the country’s peace and unity should not be compromised by anyone.

On Sunday, NASA leader Raila Odinga called on supporters to stage peaceful protests outside the IEBC Anniversary Towers officers starting Tuesday.

The NASA leader said that they (opposition) will not participate in repeat presidential election if IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba and other officials who allegedly bungled the August 8 presidential election will still be in office.

On Monday President Uhuru Kenyatta said that NASA has a right to peaceful picketing but warned that any acts of violence and intolerance will be met with the full force of the law.
