An intense rivalry has continued to play out in Machakos gubernatorial race as Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti seeks to dethrone the incumbent governor Dr Alfred Mutua from power.

Mutua and Ndeti have been launching attacks on each as the race enters homestretch. In a statement through social media, Mutua faulted Ndeti for what he termed as running away from public scrutiny yet she wants to ascend to power.

Mutua said Ndeti has become fond of skipping debates when she is expected to outline her plans to the people of Machakos before the August General elections.

The governor posted: The seat of the Governor requires someone who is willing to be interrogated, put on the spot and who has nothing to hide.

Kenya needs transparent leaders who have clear development plan for wananchi, not empty rhetoric, baseless accusations and innuendos,” as quoted by Nairobi News.

In the meantime, Mutua has exuded confidence that he will retain his seat in August.

The governor argues that his performance scoreboard makes him the best bet among the available options.

He has promised to bring more changes if he is re-elected. Machakos Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala has also expressed interest in the seat.
