Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has suspended 437 county workers in a bid to improve service delivery during his second term in power.
The suspended officers include procurement officers, accountants and auditors. The move comes a day after he was inaugurated.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mutua said he will not tolerate such workers during his last term. The governor said that suspension is part of the audit to smoothen operations in the county as he seeks to transform the lives of the residents
“This move is to allow a thorough independent audit and suitability assessment of staff, financial systems and operations for Machakos," he said in a statement on Friday, as quoted by Star.
The county boss noted that the workers will start leave on Friday until the process of auditing is complete "They should proceed on immediate leave from today until further notice. They are not to access government premises until they are recalled,” he added.
The governor, who floored Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti, said that there has been laxity in service delivery, adding that time has come to kick out non performers from his government.
"There is need to improve efficiency, route out cartels and enhance accountability and integrity in all levels of my government."
