Machakos county governor Alfred Mutua on Thursday made an impromptu visit to Kathiani sub-county Referral Hospital in Kathiani sub-county where he witnessed first-hand afflictions of patients at the hospital.
Subsequently, governor suspended senior officers in the hospital who he said did not meet "standards set by the Machakos county government.
"Today I made a tour of Kathiani sub-county, Machakos to assess and inspect ongoing development projects. I made unannounced visit to Kathiani sub-county referral hospital where I suspended several senior officers after I found that the standards of the hospital were not in keeping with the standards that I have set for Machakos county," Mutua said.
"The principle is that health workers must first consider the plight of all the patients that come to the hospital," he added.
Mutua further urged other medical officers and the subordinate staff in the hospital to maintain high standards of health care.
