Speaking at the African Inland Church (AIC) Kea, Migwani, Mwingi West constituency, Mutua said he was consulting widely before making the announcement.
“I am honoured by the endorsement and want to say that I am driven by the desire to serve the people and not acquire power,” Mutua said.
"I want to assure the Kamba Council of Elders and the leaders who have faith in me that I will not let them down. However, this is not about me but about our community and our great country Kenya. I will therefore need some time to make a decision,” he added, flanked by MCC candidates.
Mutua urged the church to pray for him as he consults about the 2022 bid and asked residents to elect leaders on the basis of their development scorecard and not political parties.
Taking an indirect swipe at Kalonzo – who has been accused of failing to develop the Ukambani region despite holding several powerful positions in his political career– Mutua said that his chief concern is delivery of projects as he does “not have a thirst for power”.
He added the Kamba nation should not be herded like sheep to support a particular coalition for the benefit of an individual who only cares about himself and his immediate family.
