Mutua made the promise after visiting the home of Christopher Maina Muchoki and his wife Ann Gathigia in Iruri village, Ruguru Ward, Mathira Constituency in Nyeri County on Friday.

He said he had been told of the plight of the family and wanted to visit them.

Muchoki is reported to have lost his eyesight about a year ago and sank deeper into poverty. The couple lives in a ramshackle house constructed of wood.

"It reminded me of my life when I was young because I lived in similar conditions. They told me they used to go to the market and watch me on TV give briefings when I worked for President Mwai Kibaki," Mutua said on his official Facebook page.

He said during his visit to the couples home, Muchoki told him of his many projects in Machakos and "I was touched when he thanked me for working hard for God’s people."

The couple is said to be suffering from cataracts disease.

"This coming Tuesday, I will send a driver and a car to pick up Mzee Muchoki and the other blind lady so that they can be taken to an eye specialist. I have also committed that, also from this week, Lillian and I will construct the Muchoki family a new and modern house using Chap Chap technology," he said
