Maendeleo Chap Chap Party Leader Alfred Mutua has called on politicians to conduct their political activities in a peaceful manner before, during and after this year’s general election.

Speaking in Kangundo constituency in Machakos County on Thursday, Mutua cautioned leaders against making utterances that many cause anarchy during this electioneering period. “Those who have sensed defeat should keep off the polls instead of inciting their supporters. This country is bigger than all of us thus the need for peaceful campaigns and polls,” he said.Mutua, the Machakos County Governor, said leaders saying that they will not respect the outcome of the polls wanted to hold the nation at ransom.“Our leaders should also learn to respect rulings given by courts. Disregarding courts is fanning anarchy,” Mutua noted.He said a section of leaders were setting the tempo for violence if they lose in the August elections, urging that Kenyans should learn from what happened in the 2007 elections that led to deaths and destruction.“Let political leaders rise above ethnic and divisive politics and hold peaceful campaigns,” he added.
