Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has been told to execute development projects in the county instead of bribing residents for votes in 2017.
The call was made on Wednesday by a section of women from Katani Ward in Mavoko sub-county who said it bit logic for the governor to keep dishing out money to the residents instead of implementing “real” projects.
“We are tired of Mutua’s Public Relations, he organizes meetings in Machakos town and engages media to make mountains out of an ant hill,” said the women’s spokesperson Jesinter Kasuku.
Kasuku said the governor should use the money from county government’s kitty to provide water and effectively manage garbage in the county’s sub counties instead of organizing meetings in his Machakos office.
“It is very simple, we should stop living in illusion as a county. We need real development and not imaginary ones.
Kasuku said this week alone, the governor had hosted two huge groups of women and representatives of Mau Mau fighters from the region.
She said the women who were drawn from the eight sub-counties within Machakos were given Sh1,500 each as handouts.
“Why do we have to live under tough conditions and accept to be bribed cheaply with our own money,” questioned Kasuku.
Kasuku called on the Machakos residents to wake up and stop being bribed by their own taxes especially the women and youth she said were the most vulnerable at the expense of development.
They said the governor’s Public Relations will not go far.
