Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua is expected to address the grievances of doctors in the county after they issued him with a strike notice. According to Daily Nation, the doctors have said that they will down their tools if the county government does not listen to their plight on Monday.
In a letter through Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Chairman, Lower Eastern Branch Dr. Harvey Mulei, the doctors have lamented over delayed salaries, unprocedural disciplinary action, and failure of the county government to remit both the statutory and non-statutory deductions within the required time frame. The medics said that they were compelled to leave work for seventeen days before the county government agreed to sign the contract.
They further asked the county government to adhere to the laws agreed upon in regard to their services or else they will not report to work in the coming week.
"The return to work agreement bound all parties to adhere to the employment and labor laws specifically on disciplinary procedures, unfortunately, this has not been adhered to on your end," said Dr. Mbithi in the letter, as quoted by the local daily.
