Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has urged the national treasury to release funds to the county faster in a bid to promote devolution following the promulgation of the new constitution.
Speaking to the press on Friday, Mutua raised concern over the delay in the disbursement of funds. He told journalists that the funds have been delayed for some time, which has made it tough for county government to deliver on their matter.
He also said that the county boss have not been able to initiate any projects since they took over power after the August General election because of the delay in the disbursement.
"We have not initiated any county project since we were elected," he said, as quoted by The Star.
The county boss also said that the governors have given their best despite the fact the national government has not been very supportive when it comes to the funding their activities.
"County governments have scored above average despite not getting sufficient funds from the national treasury. There are still development projects that we have done with the little funds we get," he added.
The county boss retained his seat on Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement after decamping from Wiper.
