Hon. Florence Mutua on Sunday called for Education Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang’i to conduct an audit both at the ministry level and schools over distribution of free sanitary pads.
According to Mutua, sanitary pads are supposed to be delivered to girls in school freely as the government has already paid for them.
The Busia County women representative in parliament said she was surprised to find out that the budgeted pads never reach their beneficiaries in schools and called for CS of education to look into the matter urgently.
Mutua noted that it was important to know if the government is still procuring the distribution of the pads and provide details on where the pads are taken to.
“An audit needs to be done because this is totally unfair to our girls. What is important is to know if the government procures and if it does where the pads distributed to. If the pads are distributed to schools why does they not given to girls,” said Mutua through her tweeter handle.
According to Mutua there might be ongoing misconduct over the sanitary pads distribution which must be brought to light.
