Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has warned politicians in the region against dividing the Kamba people for their own interests.
Mutua said that some politicians were using divide tactics to cause rifts among locals and leaders.
He spoke during the Youth Convention at the Machakos People’s Park on Friday, urged politicians to sale their agenda to the locals without creating divisions among them.
Mutua said that disunity will prevent the region from achieving its development goals.
“Politicians should stop dividing the people and instead use the acceptable ways of getting support,” he said.
He said that unity of the region is critical for realisation development urging politicians to stop using inflammatory remarks that could trigger violence.
The planned visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta to the Ukambani region has been postponed.
In a statement to newsrooms on Saturday, State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said that the visit has been rescheduled.
President Kenyatta was expected in Ukambani on May 19 to launch various development projects.
According to political analysts, the postponement of the visit could be a result of the ongoing wrangles between Ukambani leaders.
