Governor Alfred Mutua has urged Kenyans to elect leaders who will address the challenges facing the country in the forthcoming 2017 elections.
Speaking during a Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement party delegate’s conference at KICC in Nairobi on Friday, Mutua warned Kenyans against electing leaders basing on their tribes and wealth.
The Machakos governor said that the country has not been able to achieve its full development because of bad leaders who are elected to office.
The Governor said that the country needs leaders who will champion for development.
“We are heading to the 2017 general elections and my appeal is to Kenyans to be careful on the people they elect to office” he said.
Mutua observed that there are high levels of poverty and unemployment which he said have stagnated the country’s economy.
He further asked politicians to campaign basing on issues and not propaganda.
Mutua claimed that some politicians are employing propaganda in their campaigns instead of real issues facing the common people.
At the same time, the Machakos government urged the government to carry out massive sensitization forums to educate Kenyans on the electoral process.
Mutua noted that many Kenyans are not aware of the electoral process.
“The government must immediately start voter sensitization so that Kenyans can have an understanding of the electoral process as we approach 2017,” he added.
