Speaking after visiting Machakos Level Five Hospital on Monday, Mutua condemned misappropriations of medicines saying it was an inhumane as the affected are the poor citizens who need the resources.

“It is against the doctors and medical practitioners’ ethics to take drugs meant for poor patients and instead use them for personal gain. If any person is found committing the inhumane act, they will face the law,” said Mutua.

Governor Mutua further stated he would ensure all hospitals in Machakos County are fitted with CCTV cameras to curb the vice.

This follows a case reported at Machakos Level Five hospital where a doctor is accused of stealing drugs from the hospital with intentions of selling the same to patients in his private hospital.

The suspect is currently being held at the Machakos Police station.

Speaking during the same event, county Health CeC Naomi Mutie stated that the act was a shame to the county even as it’s putting efforts in developing the health system.

“The government has been supplying drugs to hospitals but on the contrary, we get constant reports of drug shortage in our public hospitals. The act of stealing medicines is a shame as we try our best to pay our medics well,” said Mutie.
