Mutambo said Mutua has the numbers to win in case the county goes to a by-election.

Speaking on KTN News on Tuesday, Mutambo dismissed claims that former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti will floor Mutua.

“Wavinya Ndeti does not have the political muscles to beat Mutua in a by-election as some people are claiming,” Mutambo said.

Mutambo said the governor is a tactful politician and therefore he might remain the Machakos governor until 2022.

The former MP further said chances of the Supreme Court overturning the Court of Appeal's ruling on Mutua's victory are high.

He, however, urged Machakos politicians to encourage unity among their supporters as they wait for the Supreme Court's ruling on Mutua's appeal.

The Court of Appeal nullified Mutua’s election on Friday last week on grounds that the IEBC failed to conduct a free and fair election.

Court of Appeal's Judge William Ouko ordered the polls agency to conduct a fresh gubernatorial poll in conformity with the constitution and relevant laws.

Mutua has since appealed the Court of Appeal's ruling at the Supreme Court.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader maintains that he remains governor pending the Supreme Court hearing and ruling.

Mutua also says that his 2022 presidential ambition is still on course.

On Tuesday, Machakos County Assembly passed a motion to impeach Mutua.
