Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has urged youths to venture into the film sector and the broadcasting industry.

According to governor Mutua, there is money in the film sector that youths need to exploit.

Speaking at the Machakos People’s Park after launching the 2016 Machakos-fest, a short film festival competition on Tuesday, Mutua said that the film sector pays adding that his government has partnered with local and foreign investors to train youths on film-making.

Mutua also said that his government will not charge any fees on film-makers in the county.

“Anyone one who wishes to shoot a film in Machakos is welcomed because we are not charging any fees,” said Mutua.

The Governor asked the national government and counties to put in place mechanisms that will grow the film industry in the country.

Mutua said that the film sector has the potential of addressing rising unemployment among the youths.

“The national and county governments need to come up with policies and structures that will promote the film industry and tap young talents,” he said.

Mutua said his government is keen to promote the growth of the film and broadcasting sector in the county.

The governor also revealed that his government has set aside adequate funds meant to support youth talents with the main aim of taming unemployment.
