Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has refuted claims that he will vie for Presidency come 2017.

Speaking when he hosted media producers and journalists his Machakos office on Monday, Mutua said that he has no plans of vying for the presidency.

He said that he is keen to spearhead development of Machakos people.

“I have read reports from some media saying that I will be running for presidency in 2017. Let me make it clear that I have no such plans for now,” he said.

Mutua said that he is determined to change the lives of Machakos people and will not allow distractions.

“I vowed to work for Machakos people and that is what I am concentrated on,” he added.

Mutua also refuted claims of ditching Wiper Party and the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord).

He said that he was elected governor on Wiper ticket and that he is still a member.

“I don’t have to go for or attend political rallies for you to know that I am a member of Wiper or Cord,” he said.

Mutua urged the media to report responsibly and highlight the success of devolution across the country.

He said that since the inception of devolved governments, a lot has happened across the 47 counties.

“You (media) should help in the success of devolution by highlighting issues happening on the ground,” he said.

Mutua said that his governments will continue to partner with the media and the government on matters of development.
