Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has promised to supply electricity to all public schools in the county by the end of the year.
Speaking at Machakos Girls High School on Tuesday, Mutua said 40 percent of schools across the county have been powered and that the remaining will have electricity by the end of this year.
“The Machakos government has partnered with the national government to bring electricity to all public schools within the next six months,” he said.
Mutua said that the move is geared towards improving performance of students, who he said cannot study at night because they have no access to electricity.
The governor said that the county has already procured power transformers and other materials needed for the project.
He added that a programme has been launched to spearhead supply of electricity saying that enough funds have been set aside to improve on other infrastructures in all schools.
Mutua reiterated his government efforts to promote education standards in the county.
He said that it is through education that poverty, unemployment and other issues facing the county will be addressed.
The governor said that he will continue to work with the national government on education and other key sectors.
