Governor Alfred Mutua’s administration is biased in allocating resources to Machakos County wards, says Athi River MCA Michael Mutuku.
Mutuku said the governor was keen on ensuring that wards belonging to MCA’s who are opposed to his leadership were deprived of resources from the county government.
He said there was no much development projects going on in such wards while wards of MCA’s who are his sycophants were allocated adequate resources to support his Maendeleo Chap Chap slogan.
“Governor Mutua’s administration is discriminative in allocating county development funds to the wards across the Machakos County, this is in justice to the residents,” said Mutuku.
Mutuku spoke at Athi River town’s main market on Wednesday where he commissioned newly constructed stalls by the county government using ward development funds.
He said getting funds allocated for the project was not easy since he is among the county legislatures opposed to Mutua’s style of leadership.
“County resources should be shared equally to ensure equity, some of us MCA’s have to fight so hard for our wards to be allocated funds for various development projects,” said Mutuku.
Mutuku said he fought hard for the government to allocate his ward funds for construction of the market stalls.
He said the county government was exploiting Athi River residents because they were not receiving services equivalent to the taxes which they remit on daily basis.
“Resource allocation in this government is either how an MCA is close and supports the governor or how an MCA pressures it to provide services and initiate projects to residents,” said Mutuku.
Mutuku said Athi River Township, Mlolongo, Katani and Kinanie ward all in Mavoko sub-county were underfunded despite being the leading in terms of tax remittal to the Machakos Government.
He said Mutua was ignoring elected MCA’s in regions where he does not have followers.
“Mutua is difficult to deal with, he cannot be advised,” said Mutuku.
He said Mutua toured Export Processing Zone in his ward on Tuesday without consulting him.
Mutuku said the ambulance and fire engine donated by Machakos government to EPZ during Mutua’s visit were unnecessary but Public Relations.
He said as MCA’s opposed to the governor, they will not be cowed by Mutua’s weird ways of county management.
Mutuku said Mutua has to respect MCA’s for him to remain politically relevant in the county or prepare to go home after 2017 elections.
