Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti has decamped from Jubilee Party and joined Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua's Maendeleo Chap Chap.
Kivuti, who is eyeing the Embu gubernatorial seat decamped from Jubilee Party citing internal party wrangling and no assurance of transparent nominations.
He decamped with his running mate, Emilio Kathuri, Deputy Governor Dorothy Nditi, Mbeere North Member of Parliament and Muriuki Njagagua saying that he will vie for the governor seat held by Martin Wambora on a Maendeleo ticket.
While receiving the defectors at the party headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, Governor Mutua disclosed that Maendeleo Chap Chap will not field a presidential candidate but will instead support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid in the August 8 polls.
The Machakos County Governor hailed Senator Kivuti as a shrewd leader and appealed to the people of Embu to elect him as their next governor.
The Mbeere Council of Elders confirmed Lenny Kivuti’s endorsement for Embu governor last October, after consulting community’s 39 clans at a holy shrine.
