Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to deal with corrupt leaders squarely for the sake of the common mwananchi.
Mutua said the president has the powers to end corruption in his government, adding that the looters around the President are tainting his name.
He addressed the press in Machakos town on Thursday.
“Those stealing are near you and are maligning your name through their actions. Deal with them ruthlessly and show Kenyans there are no sacred cows in your administration,” Mutua said.
Mutua also called for a life audit on all government officials.
The second term governor said a life audit would ensure accountability.
Mutua said the audit should target governors, senators and cabinet secretaries in a bid to tame corruption levels in the nation.
“Those who will fail to explain how they acquired their fabulous wealth should have the property confiscated and returned to the people of Kenya who are the rightful owners,” Mutua said.
The remarks come after the arrest of several officials from the NYS over the alleged loss of Sh9 billion.
President Kenyatta has since issued a stern warning to corrupt public servants in his government.
