The rivalry between Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and Members of the county Assembly (MCAs) has been renewed after the latter accused the Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement leader of sabotaging their plans.
According to the Star, a county official who sought anonymity said that the MCAs have threatened to sabotage the activities of the executive until the governor meets their demands without immediate effect.
The source revealed that the lawmakers have embarked on frustrating the county boss, who defended his seat in the August General election amid tough competition from Former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti.
“They said they will shoot down anything brought to the assembly by the governor, including bills,” the source said, as quoted by the local daily.
The source also said that the county government had rejected the request citing lack of proper accounting by the lawmakers.
“MCAs want to spend the money without a budget or an agenda. This creates room for looting,” the source added.
The county government has been fighting to cut the budget in order to promote development in different sectors of the economy as Mutua embarks on various projects during his second term in office.
“In order not to spend money that we do not have, it is advisable to cut the total budget by Sh400 million,” the document adds.
