Immediately after he was declared a winner for the 2017 Machakos county gubernatorial race, Governor Alfred Mutua showed his interest for the presidency without hesitation.
Having won from his own party's ticket, the Maendeleo ChapChap party leader was optimistic that he will succeed H. E. President Uhuru Kenyatta.
However, these dreams and hope was zeroed by the nullification of his election. The nullification which was done by the court of appeal on 8th of June 2018. The court's decision will definitely have an impact on Mutua's presidential ambitions.
Alfred Mutua's nullification is, possibly, joyous to some political rivals who are also targeting the country's top seat.
His nullification is a big loss to the Eastern supporters who had already started grooming Mutua as the next Kamba kingpin. This meant that he was the most preferred leader from the region to Wiper party's Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.
This uncertainty has suddenly dismantled the courage and the boldness Mutua had in facing off his opponents in the previous polls.
In fact, his political career will be vindicated should he lose the repeat elections to his nearest opponent - Wavinya Ndeti who would not afford to hide his joy after the nullification.
Should Mutua lose in the Supreme court appeal or fresh gubernatorial elections, then his chances of becoming the successor of President Uhuru or rather being a presidential candidate in 2022 will be next to zero.
