Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has raised concerns over pollution in Aimi ma Kilungu ranch near Konza where petrocity has large fuel storage tanks.
Mutula, who raised the alarm via his social media accounts called for immediate action to be taken to stop the pollution and clean water provided to the residents who use the dam for domestic purposes and watering their cattle.
"Clean water supply should be made available to residents as an urgent investigation is commissioned to establish why this is happening. Staff on duty contacted today - March 5 - confirmed that the dam is indeed poisoned." read part of the statement by the senator.
The pollution of the dam comes at a time when the county in Thange, Kibwezi east constituency is still facing the effects of pollution after an oil leakage from a Kenya Pipeline Company line destroyed land, crops and contaminated the river and all water sources in the area.
The effects in Thange are still being felt to date as Kenya Pipeline hired a contractor to extract all the oil that has spilled in the area. In the first months of the extraction more than 10,000 litres were being extracted but now only about 100 litres are being extracted in a month pointing out to completion of the clean up in a few months time.
Residents are yet to receive complete compensation but Makueni leaders led by Mutula Kilonzo junior and Kivutha Kibwana are pushing to ensure they receive a fair compensation to cater for all damages incurred.
