Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has been cleared to defend his seat in the forthcoming general elections, Citizen TV reports.

Mutula, who has been a strong supporter of the opposition, will be banking on his performance scoreboard to retain his seat when that time comes.

The senator enjoys a cordial relationship with Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, also National Super Alliance (NASA) Deputy President.

Mutula has earlier on rejected calls by a section of residents of this area to contest for the governorship in the August elections. The governor said that he will rethink about the idea in the future elections. The Kitui governorship has attracted different candidates including the incumbent Dr Julius Malombe.

The county boss is set to lock horns with former lands minister Charity Kaluki Ngilu and Senator David Musila when that time comes. Musila opted to defect from Wiper after he lost nominations to Malombe.

The lawmaker pointed an accusing finger at Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo claiming that he had a soft spot for Malombe. He has since rejoined the race as an Independent candidate and gone ahead to name Malombe’s Deputy Malonza as his running mate before the elections date.
