As the debate about the constitutionality of NASA's People Assemblies motion rages, Senator Mutula Kilonzo jr who is a lawyer has made his intervention.
Fielding questions from an interviewer at the Maanzoni Lodge, Senator Kilonzo said that the People's Assembly was perfectly constitutional.
''The first article of the constitution other than the preamble is the recognition that the people of Kenya are sovereign. The power that we leaders exercise, we exercise on their behalf either directly or indirectly. And therefore the People's Assemblies are anchored in Article 1 where the people of Kenya are allowed to articulate their issues without any structure.'' Mutula said.
Mutula's pointed remarks in the wake of NASA's insistence that they will press on with the People's Assembly motions amid government warnings that the motions are unconstitutional.
Government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe warned MCA's who passed the motions that they will be surcharged.
