Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has faulted president Uhuru Kenyatta for nominating Wafula Chebukati to succeed Ahamed Issack Hassan as the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
According to the Wiper Democratic Movement party lawmaker, Tukero Ole Kina performed better than Chebukati in the interviews and should therefore be the ideal nominee.
He said there was a possible influence to nominate Chebukati, after two names were forwarded to him by the IEBC selection-panel for nomination after interviews.
Queries have been raised over the suitability of Chebukati, after he allegedly engaged in a corruption scam.
He is also seen not a suitable candidate, given that he hails from the region where IEBC Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba hails from. Chebukati's nomination therefore is seen as one that lacks regional balance.
Uhuru also nominated Consolata Bucha, Boya Molu, Roselyn Akombe, Paul Kurgat, Margaret Mwachanya and Abdi Guliye as IEBC commissioners.
Their names lie before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC), for vetting, before January 17.
