Makueni County Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, who is also a member of the Senate Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC), has called upon the opposition to withdraw a suit challenging the award of IEBC voters’ register audit contract to KPMG.
Addressing mourners at Nzeveni village in Kilome constituency, Makueni County during the burial of Major Nicholas Mulinge, the outspoken senator said that there is need to audit the voter register in good time in order to do away with issues of ID-mix and double registration.
He also asked Cord leaders to look for an alternative way to address the matter as the voter registration exercise enters its second week.
“I am asking the Cord coalition to find a method even if it is withdrawing the case that is in the court so that we can find a method of auditing this register as soon as possible,” he said, as quoted by CitizenTV.
Mutula further pointed out that this crisis would not be there had the Jubilee side agreed to use electronic voter identification method over manual.
“This crisis would not be there if the country had agreed to use technology as a method of identifying persons and as a method of registering persons,” added the senator.
