Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has come into strong defense of embattled immediate successor David Maraga, who has been under unprecedented attacks from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

At a number of rallies across the country, Uhuru has been questioning the verdict by the Supreme Court to declare his victory null and void.

And in an article on the Standard, Mutunga challenged the president to respect courts so that Kenyans to maintain confidence on them.

“The problem with Kenyan politicians is that they want things to go their way. If things don’t work, they condemn and even cannibalize you.

“The same court he is cannibalizing, handed him a victory in 2013. He should accept the verdict and move on,” said Mutunga.

It was the first time Mutunga, who took an early retirement, talked about the recently concluded general elections.

A Jubilee affiliated MP, was on Friday prevailed upon by the president to withdraw a petition that targeted removal of Maraga from office.
