The CJ made the remarks Wednesday afternoon when he delivered his farewell speech to the Senate.

Mutunga called on the new House of Parliament to not allow itself to be demeaned but play its role as dictated by the Constitution.

He advised that the Constitution should guide the Senate in everything.

“The role of the Senate is not yet fully activated but it should assert its constitutional role by constructively engaging other arms of government,” said the CJ.

Mutunga further cautioned that supremacy wars between the two houses of Parliament should not be allowed to cloud the noble idea of devolution.

He said the Senate was more of a deliberative chamber than a debating one.

''The two Houses should work together to help Kenya move to another level. The constant wars do not add any value to this country. Unite so that Kenyans can also unite. Remember you are their leaders and therefore their role models,'' he added.
