Speaking on Thursday, Mutunga said that he is yet to recover from an incident while in office where he found a female judge who was so selfish to the point that she had five flasks of tea all to herself

According to the retired Chief justice:

"All the Judicial staffs were entitled to tea but the lady judge was holding it all up to herself."

After inquiries, he got a rude shock where the junior staff told him that all the five flasks belonged to the Lady Judge.

After the former CJ knew about this he said that all the staff should be entitled to a cup of tea at 11 am.

Mutunga continued to say:

"Making all the staff equal made the Judges boycott saying that they should all not be treated in the same manner."

On the first day of working in the Judiciary for Mutunga was also shocked when people ran away from him instead of welcoming him to the new position.

“The first time I got there, people were running away from me in the corridors. I would just wonder what kind of institution is this where people don’t share corridors. When you meet someone on the corridor and they can’t run they will only freeze,” said Mutunga.

Mutunga retired on June 16, a year earlier than the stipulated time to give the Judicial Service Commission sufficient time to hire a new Chief Justice.
