The Judicial Service Commission has begun the process of picking former Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga successor.
According to JSC Vice Chairperson Prof Margaret Kobia and the Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi, the commission's decision to advertise for the vacancies of the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and Supreme Court Judge had set in motion a recruitment process that will take at least four months.
"JSC anticipates that the recruitment process will take at least four months given the statutory timelines that guide the process and expects the new Chief Justice to be in office in October, 2016," Amadi was quoted by local dailies as saying.
According to Prof Kobia, sitting Judges, lawyers, law scholars and people in the academia and the corporate sector are free to apply for any of the three advertised positions.
"Once we have shortlisted candidates for the positions, Kenyans will be welcomed to scrutinise on their suitability before we embark on the interviewing exercise," said Prof Kobia.
The applications for the post of CJ will close on July 7, while those of deputy CJ and Supreme Court Judge will close on July 6.
Amadi further said upon receiving the applications, the commission will publish in the local dailies the names of applicants including the shortlisted candidates.
