Uasin Gishu County Assembly majority leader Josephat Lowoi has urged the speaker of the National Assembly Justine to recall the members of parliament for them to find alternative means of paying teachers.
He says parliament should deliberate on alternative way of ending the teachers strike that entered its second week on Monday saying the strike might persist if legislators do not intervene.
Speaking at the county assembly offices on Wednesday, Lowoi said the speaker is in a better position of saving the situation by reconvening members of parliament on recess to allocate money for teachers so they can go back to class.
“I urge president Uhuru Kenyatta to break his silence and direct the treasury to pay teachers since the issue touches on students life and the future leaders who have been out of school for the past two weeks despite the fact some of them will be sitting for national exams,” he said
He argues that if the president had the teachers' interests at heart he would have boycotted his Italy trip and settled the stalemate before leaving.
He wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to break his silence on the matter.
