On Wednesday clerk Moses Sialai read the ballots for speaker aloud and to the delight of many Justin Muturi garnered the majority.
As of Thursday, Muturi had managed to garner 220 votes during the second round beating his competitor Noah Winja who received only one vote.
The first round saw Muturi collect 217 votes while Winja collected four.
"If no candidate is supported by votes from two-thirds of all members, the candidate who receives the highest number of votes in the ballot and the candidate who receives the second highest shall alone stand for election in a further ballot and the candidate who receives the highest number shall be elected speaker," Sialai stated as he exercised Standard Order 7.
According to reports Winja and Muturi were the only two to compete for the position after receiving approval after Washington Onyango withdrew from the contest.
