National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi is expected to host a meeting Saturday of a clan of the Mbeere to drum up support for Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire who is eyeing the Embu County governorship.
The meeting which will be held at a hotel in Embu town, comes in the wake a similar one that Mbarire’s rival and fierce critic Senator Lenny Kivuti held last week with 39 clans where he it is reported he was endorsed to vie for the county top seat.
According to the Star, a Cabinet secretary will also attend the Mbarire event which analysts say seeks to undo the reports that Kivuti has been endorsed by the elders.
Muturi and Kivuti both hail from the same tribe- Mbeere- but different clans.
Muturi’s support for Mbarire rekindles his rivalry with Kivuti who defeated him in the 2007 elections to clinch the Siakago seat.
Aside from Senator Kivuti, Mbarire will also battle it out with the incumbent, Governor Martin Wambora who has had a troubled time since he assumed office after the 2013 polls.
She and Kivuti recently exchanged bitter words at a public event, in which she tried to snatch the microphone from the senator.
