National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has rallied the Embu community to re-elect President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Jubilee Party as a show of gratitude for giving him the third most powerful post under the constitution.

Muturi, who unsuccessfully vied for the Mbeere North parliamentary seat in the 2013 general election, said the National Speaker’s post was a surprise gift from Uhuru.

He said had he won the elections, he would now be the majority chief whip.

"It was a blessing in disguise. It is God who made me lose the seat so that I can get a bigger seat. The President didn't know who to appoint as majority chief whip since that is the post he had reserved for me,” Muturi said Sunday as reported by the Nation.

"If we have such a person who elevates you to such levels, and then you abandon him in the hour of need, it would be bad. He is the Jubilee Party leader and if he has honoured this village so much, let us support Jubilee Party candidates," he added.

He made the remarks when he accompanied JP aspirants in drumming up support for Uhuru during a campaign rally at Kanyuambora market.

"I'm sure Jubilee Party will carry the day in Kiambu where the President hails from. It will also be the same in Uasin Gishu where the Deputy President comes from. This being JB Muturi's home, we must ensure Jubilee Party scoops all the seats," added Runjenjes MP Cecily Mbarire.

Mbarire who is eyeing the Embu governorship said by voting for Uhuru and Jubilee, Muturi will be reassured of the Speaker’s post in the 12 Parliament.

Mbeere North MP Muriuki Njagagua, Embu County Assembly Speaker Kariuki Mate, Ms Mbarire’s running mate Dickson Murunguma and 10 MCAs attended the event.
