National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has called on the International Community to address the issue of the refugee crisis in Africa, particularly in Kenya.

He said the decision to close down the Dadaab refugee camp in Garissa, had been informed by various factors, including collaborative intelligence reports that terrorists were planning for attacks in the camp.

Muturi noted the International Community had pleaded with Kenya on the matter and also received words of comfort, but beyond that, the rest had been left to Kenyans.

According to him, whereas Europe was lecturing Africa on matters of refugees, they were doing the Opposite in their countries.

"What is good for the goose must also be good for the gander. The Europeans do not seem to be worried with what is happening in Europe,’’ he said, citing the handling of immigrants by the new US administration under president Donald Trump.

Speaking when he answered questions from a group of MPs under the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, Muturi said Kenya has had its fair challenge on terrorist attacks, since it started fighting for Somalia’s security.

The delegation paid Muturi a courtesy call at Parliament.
