The Speaker of The National Assembly Justin Muturi has said that it does not matter whether the opposition MPs will attend the vetting of the cabinet nominees, the event will go on as scheduled.

Earlier, Minority Whip in the National Assembly Suna East MP Junet Mohamed had said that the opposition legislators will abscond all the sessions themed at vetting cabinet secretaries nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta arguing that they do not recognize his Presidency.

In an interview on Wednesday with a local radio station Muturi said that it is not a must for every member to attend that session.

“The ability of committee members to vet individuals does not lie in political parties but in the qualifications of the people sitting in such committees. If you look carefully do you think the remaining team does not qualify to vet CSs?” Muturi said in an interview with Citizen FM.

“If you look at all the processes that go through the parliament, people debate and eventually they vote, it’s the vote that decides all the matters,” Muturi added.

The Speaker further said that the Clerk of the National Assembly is preparing to dispatch letters to all the cabinet nominees to invite them.
