Nacada chairman John Mututho has hit out at the Nakuru County government for allegedly using the cholera crisis to draw money from the national government.
Mututho said that the county government could not account for more than Sh20 million it received to treat the disease.
He questioned why it was taking long to curb the spread, citing that the disease had only been recurring with the onset of the county government.
“Never in history has it taken more than two years to deal with this epidemic. So far more than 20 people have died with about 300 getting treatment. I feel that they are also escalating the number of victims so that they can win the sympathy of the national government and hence get more cash.” He quipped.
He also demanded an explanation as to the half a billion that had been set aside to deal with the El~Nino disaster by the county, saying that it was unfortunate that residents were still being rendered homeless by floods in Kaptembwa and Gilanis areas.
“Why are they not being attended to and yet there is the emergency funds kitty too. Is this cash also going into people’s pockets or is it benefiting the whole community?” he posed.
He was speaking on Sunday in Nakuru where he called for an immediate audit of the health department.
“Many have been taking advantage of the various diseases in the county to enrich themselves,” said Mututho.
