Nacada Chairman John Mututho has challenged investors in Nakuru County to build hotels around the Subukia Shrine.

Mr Mututho said majority of the worshippers who come to use the grounds often ended up stranded when looking for accommodation.

Mututho challenged the investors, saying that a lot of revenue was being lost in the area.

“The shrine gets more than ten million visitors annually. In fact, people are left stranded and they have to spend the night either on the grass or scattered in the church which is very uncomfortable,” said Mututho.

Mututho was speaking at a meeting in Nakuru town on Friday where he pointed out that the whole area had no camping site despite it being an international tourist attraction site.

He called on the county government to partner with the Catholic church in ensuring the shrine is well maintained.

“The place is visited even by non-Catholics who come to enjoy the cool environment or even just to pray. It is a very relaxing zone and I have personally visited it. I hope that it can be upgraded to an international standard,” he added.

Mututho pointed out that the hotels will lead to the creation of more job opportunities and hence better the lifestyle for the youth living there.
