This recognition of the former Naivasha legislator is attributed to his efforts to fight drug and alcohol abuse in the country through the Alcoholic Act, popularly known as the Mututho law.

Mututho, a strong anti-alcohol abuse campaigner, claimed that this was a great achievement.

“I am honoured to be in this list! I am truly humbled and it is great to know that some people do appreciate my efforts to make the world a better place,” he added during an interview in Naivasha.

The website, which was updated a week ago, also lists famous personalities in the country, including President Uhuru Kenyatta, the late Prof Wangari Maathai, Mwai Kibaki, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, Dedan Kimathi, Kihika Kimani and Samuel Wanjiru.

Mututho reiterated his earlier promise to make Kenya a sober nation, saying that many people were victims of irresponsible drinkers.

“The number of people who are dying due to accidents because of drunk driving is worrying. The rate of irresponsibility among families where parents are abandoning their children is not pleasing. I intend to tame this habit,” he said.

He attributes his passion to fight alcoholism to the death of one of his close relatives.

“I lost a brother to alcohol at a very young age and ever since I have never recovered. I intend to see that no other person is lost through this carelessness,” he said.

He said that the Computer for Schools Kenya, an NGO he founded, has also helped him catch Wikipedia’s attention.

“We have distributed over 250,000 computers in rural schools and this is part of the reason for my recognition by Wikipedia,” he added.
