Nacada chairman John Mututho now wants instant courts set up at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and other entry and exit points in the country to deal with drug traffickers. Mututho said that there were delays in transporting the suspected drug traffickers to the law courts. “It's unnecessary to travel all that way. Evidence might be tampered with or even disappear while on its way to the courts,” the former Naivasha MP said. Mututho raised a red flag over the use of speed boats from Dar es Salam to bring in drugs in the country. “Kajiado border is also popular for businessmen to sneak in alcohol in the country which has greatly affected the fight against alcohol and substance abuse,” he said. Mututho now wants a permanent court to handle such cases in the county. “Our justice system should also have well-trained judges and magistrates who understand the law and would give the right sentence to people who are caught transporting drugs in the county,” he said. Mututho said that anti-drugs agency was partnering with the county governments to construct rehabilitation centres in their zones due to the acute shortage of the facilities. “We have already signed several memorandum of understanding with some counties to construct the facilities. We intend to begin construction work in Gilgil as a pilot project,” he said.
