Speaking in Nakuru where he officially opened a two day workshop for members of the Education and Culture Committees from Nairobi County, Nacada chair John Mututho said that the responsibility of collecting used bottles rests in the hands of the body and county governments.

“Upon collection, the bottles will only be surrendered to firms from which they originated at a fee however beer manufacturers be exempted from this condition to help in curbing packaging of substandard wines and spirits,” said Mututho.

Mututho also called on the management of the East African Breweries (EABL) to withdraw its spirit brand 'Jebel' until it is cleared by his organisation upon re test; after it was associated with the recent Muranga deaths.

“EABL should ensure that their products are packaged in bottles with special features so as to make it hard for counterfeit products to imitate it,” added Mututho.

He also stated that Nacada will be moving to court seeking to have EABL and the owner of the outlet that sold the killer brew in Muran face charges.

The County Government of Murang’a will also be enjoined in the suit because it incensed the outlet that sold the killer liquor.

Mututho also lauded the two assembly committees for the initiative they have taken to craft ways and means of controlling consumption of alcohol in Nairobi County during the festive season.

He promised that Nacada will work closely with them in order to ensure that sanity is restored in the city.
